Musée Mécanique

Opened in 1905, one of America’s oldest amusement parks and the oldest remaining trolley park on the West Coast. 1905

Back when my kid was in TK. At the time, I had as much faith in public education as anyone(, along with a slight fear of English), so those were the days when I pretty much signed whatever form came home from school. On the day of the event, I showed up with my camera and cheered as she ran around the track. Even on her short little legs, she ran hard and kept going. At one point, she took the hand of a tired friend and helped her around the track. The lap marks were already spilling into a third row. A few days later, I received the donation bill—the promised amount multiplied by all those check marks. Of course, it was for a good cause, so I was happy. About as happy as the parents of the girl my daughter had helped keep going. Exactly that happy.
